This is a one-time class to introduce you to the properties of clay and working with it on the wheel! Instruction provided by Shanna Coulter. If you enjoy working with this media, ask us about signing up for a 5 week course to dive deeper and expand your skills!

  • Learn the art of centering clay on the wheel - Control the wheel, not the other way around

  • Gain helpful tips for forming your clay into a vessel

Please don't leave your pottery abandoned *(Unless you plan to have us fire it for you)! Unclaimed pottery will be sacrificed and recycled 1 week after class.

*Firing Fee $10

Want your piece fired? For $10 we will fire your pottery and you can return to glaze it. After glazing we'll fire it one last time to activate the color of the glazes. Then your beautiful, finished piece will be ready for pick-up!

This class was designed for artists 10-adult at a beginning level. Whether you're looking for a new hobby or ready to dive back into pottery this is the class for you.

Who is this orientation for?

If you are looking for an opportunity to work independently on the pottery wheel then this orientation is the first step for you to do so!

We offer a ceramics studio base package that includes studio time on the pottery wheel and clay for those with previos wheel throwing experience. It is available for purchase in the studio (details on our services page). Once you have completed the orientation then you will qualify for this offering!

Please note: You must have previous wheel throwing experience to participate in this orientation

What qualifications do I have to meet to take the orientation?

Participants must do one of the following before orientation:

  • Take a sample wheel throwing class at Local Color Studio

  • Take a wheel throwing class at another location

Please note: If you have taken a wheel throwing course at Local Color Studio there is no need for you to attend the orientation as you already qualify for independent work in the ceramics studio

What to expect…

  • Shanna Coulter will familiarize you with the space and equipment

  • She will share our studio policies for working in the ceramics studio

  • You will learn our set-up and clean-up procedures

What to expect...

In this Halloween themed workshop, Lee Jordan will guide you to create a splatter painted bat or skull!

  • Paint your bat or skull on the paper with Lee’s guidance

  • Select a color palette fitting the Halloween theme

  • Splatter away to finish off your masterpiece

 Who is this class for?

This class makes for a great hang out with friends and family! Enjoy the chaotic and fun effects of splatter painting in our Little Splatter Studio. For ages 10 & up.

If you enjoy this class, book our splatter studio for a private session!

 When is class?

Class will be October 26th from 5-7pm. Please plan to leave early to find parking in Downtown.

 What do I need to bring?

We will provide all the materials. We also have art shirts, goggles, and other PPE available for you to wear during class.

A little bit about the teacher…

Lee works in a loose & vibrant style that abstracts her subjects in a recognizable way. From an early age she drew everything around her. Lee graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida State university and has been painting & learning from other artists ever since. She is inspired by nature & the concepts of hope, strength, & growth.
